Princeton University awarded the Class of 1939 Princeton Scholar Award to Uma Fox on Aug. 31, 2025.
An undergraduate at Princeton, Fox is a history major who is also pursuing minors in South Asian studies and journalism.
The Princeton Scholar Award is awarded each year to the undergraduate who, at the end of junior year, has achieved the highest academic standing for all preceding college work at the University.
Fox is currently working on her senior thesis, focussing on the transnational human rights implications of alleged Indian counterterrorism prosecutions and national security policy in the 1980s and ’90s. She recently undertook research endeavours in India and the United Kingdom.
She is also studying post-war accountability and human rights issues in Colombo, Sri Lanka and constitutional rights litigation in New Delhi, India.
She has held internship positions at the U.S. Department of Justice’s Human Rights and Special Prosecutions Section, the office of U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin and National Forum for Colombia in Bogotá, Colombia and is also a member of Princeton International Relations Council.
Recipient of the Department of History’s Lawrence Stone and Shelby Cullom Davis Prize in 2023, Fox, is the co-editor-in-chief of the Princeton Historical Review.
Along with Fox, seven of her peers were also recognized by the university. Braeden Carroll, Katie Danielsm, Alexander Luna, Haruka Nabeshima, Zechang (Charlie) Yang and Andrei Dragomir won awards along with Uma Fox.

Dean of the College Michael D. Gordin expressed joy over the awards and told Princeton University, “It is truly a privilege to honor this year’s prize winners.”
He added, "Princeton students can be justly proud of many accomplishments, but it is fitting that we as a university take this moment to celebrate today’s prize winners, who are in a category of their own."
Noting the achievements that led to the award, the dean told Princeton University, "Their stratospheric academic achievements both in their chosen disciplines and across the curriculum are a testament to the vibrancy of the liberal arts in the twenty-first century.”
He further added, "My colleagues and I wish them the warmest congratulations and continued success in the future."
