Maryland Governor Wes Moore and Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller have officially filed for re-election on Feb. 23, positioning their Democratic ticket for a second term ahead of the state’s 2026 primary.

The paperwork was submitted to the Maryland State Board of Elections one day before the filing deadline. Moore and Miller said they plan to continue focusing on economic growth, public safety, education improvements, and expanded opportunity across Maryland.

Miller, an Indian American and the first immigrant and first woman of color to serve as Maryland’s lieutenant governor, has been a central figure in the administration’s outreach and policy agenda. Born in India and raised in the United States, she has emphasized cross-party collaboration and inclusive governance throughout her tenure.

“Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller and I filed for reelection to continue the progress we’ve seen throughout Maryland to grow our economy, improve our public schools, and double down on record drops in violent crime,” Moore said.

He contrasted state-level efforts with federal policies, adding, “While Trump’s reckless policies cost Marylanders their jobs and raise prices on everything, here in Maryland we are showing across the state and party lines that there’s a better way forward to make our economy stronger and everyday life more affordable.”

Miller highlighted the administration’s governing approach and the need for continued bipartisan cooperation. “I am thrilled to stand alongside Governor Wes Moore as we continue our mission to build a Maryland that leaves no one behind,” she said.

Referring to developments in Washington, she added, “As Washington launches direct attacks on our people, now more than ever do we need leaders of action—leaders like Governor Moore who shows us we can work across party lines to create opportunity for everyone regardless of where they live.”

Since taking office, the Moore-Miller administration has cited middle-class tax cuts, a record-low unemployment rate, and significant reductions in violent crime as key accomplishments.

The campaign also reported raising US $7 million during the off-year, described as the highest total in Maryland history for that period, and entering the new year with US $8 million in cash on hand.

Maryland’s primary election is scheduled for June 23, 2026.
