American wildlife photojournalist and filmmaker Steve Winter expressed his love for India, mentioning that access to Bengal tigers continues to make the nation one of his top travel destinations.
In a video post on X by the Consulate General of India, New York, Winter, who has a special interest in big cat photography, said that India is a “wonderful place” to visit to see wildlife, adding that the country is home to the world’s largest cats, Bengal tigers.
Winter, known for his three-decade career documenting big cats for National Geographic, has won the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year and BBC Wildlife Photojournalist of the Year awards.

Winter further hailed India for its diverse culture, stating that the nation has “so much to offer,” whether in Rajasthan or Kerala.
The photographer also pointed out another specific reason he keeps coming back to India since his first trip in 1979: Indian food.
“It’s like a rainbow in your mouth, all the different flavors. I love it,” he said.
Winter is a two-time winner of the World Press Photo first prize in the Nature category in 2008 and 2014 and is also the recipient of the Global Vision Award from Pictures of the Year International (POYi).
