Jaishankar meets Rubio, Wong during Manila diplomatic engagements
Talks focused on strategic partnerships, Indo-Pacific developments and bilateral cooperation.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Wednesday met U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Manila, reviewing priority areas under the India-U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and discussing regional, global and multilateral issues of mutual interest.
Following the meeting, Jaishankar said the discussions focused on trade, tariffs, energy, defense, security, critical minerals and artificial intelligence.

"Pleased to meet Secretary Marco Rubio of the USA here in Manila. Our meeting focused on areas which are priority for the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, including trade & tariffs, energy, defence & security, critical minerals & artificial intelligence. We also exchanged quick perspectives on regional, global and multilateral issues of mutual interest," Jaishankar posted on X.
The external affairs minister also met Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and reviewed the outcomes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Australia.
"Great to catch up with FM Senator Penny Wong of Australia. Followed up on the outcomes of PM Narendra Modi's recent visit to Australia," Jaishankar said on X.
Modi visited Australia from July 8 to 10 for the Australia-India Annual Leaders' Summit in Melbourne. During the visit, Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese signed 18 agreements, including a defense pact and a civilian nuclear agreement for uranium supply.
Earlier in the day, Jaishankar held talks with Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, discussing ways to strengthen the India-Philippines Strategic Partnership and reviewing recent developments in the Indo-Pacific.
"A pleasure to meet FM Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro of Philippines today in Manila. A good discussion on further strengthening our Strategic Partnership, focusing on trade & investment, education, defence & security, maritime cooperation, capacity building, and development cooperation," Jaishankar wrote on X.
"Also discussed recent developments in the Indo-Pacific," he added.
Lazaro described the meeting as a "productive discussion" and said both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in financial technology, trade and investment, higher education, pharmaceuticals, defense, maritime security and critical infrastructure.
The meeting with the Philippine foreign minister comes amid heightened tensions in the Indo-Pacific following a recent confrontation between the Philippines and China.
