Emmy-winning Indian comedian Vir Das is set to bring his solo comedy show to New York’s Lincoln Center Theater this fall.

The show, Hey Stranger, will run from Oct. 29 to Nov. 9 at LCT3’s Claire Tow Theater as part of The Comedy Series, a collaboration between Lincoln Center Theater and Seaview that gives comedians a platform to test new material before live audiences.

Directed by Tony-nominated Moritz von Stuelpnagel, known for Hand to God and Present Laughter, the residency marks Das’s latest milestone after acclaimed appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe, Carnegie Hall, and London’s Eventim Apollo.

With more than 100 stand-up performances, nearly 20 comedy specials, 18 films, eight television shows, and 35 plays to his credit, Das’s career spans continents and mediums. Tickets go on pre-sale Sept. 4, with general sales beginning Sept. 9 at LCT.org.

Das, who won the 2023 International Emmy Award for best comedy for his Netflix special Vir Das: Landing, has become one of India’s most prominent comedy exports. His latest Netflix special, Fool Volume, entered the platform’s global Top 10, underscoring his worldwide reach.

The comic often reflects on India’s evolving place in the world. In a recent reel with comedian Gianmarco Soresi, he joked that America still holds the “big seat” at the table but must adjust to sharing space as the table grows. Das added that India is becoming “more audacious,” a spirit he embraces in his work.

Beyond stand-up, Das has worked extensively in film and television, with lead or prominent roles in Hindi productions such as Badmaash Company, Delhi Belly, Go Goa Gone, Sooper Se Ooper, Shaadi Ke Side Effects, Revolver Rani, Amit Sahni Ki List, Mastizaade, Santa Banta Pvt. Ltd., 31st October, Shivaay, and Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi, as well as the Hollywood comedy The Bubble.

He co-wrote, co-directed, and starred in Happy Patel Khatarnak Jasoos, produced by Aamir Khan, and created the Netflix dark comedy series Hasmukh. His credits also include the American series Whiskey Cavalier, the travel-comedy show Jestination Unknown, and several Netflix specials for which he has served as writer and performer. He has additionally authored a memoir, The Outsider: A Memoir for Misfits, due out in November.
