The Asian Law Caucus has condemned President Donald Trump’s travel ban, calling it a direct assault on core American values like family unity and freedom.
Trump, through an executive order signed on June 4, imposed full entry bans on nationals from 12 countries, including Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.
He also partially restricted travel from seven other nations: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.
"We will not allow people to enter our country who wish to do us harm," Trump said in a video posted on X. He also said that the list could be revised and new countries could be added.
The new restrictions took effect on June 9.

Aarti Kohli, executive director of the Asian Law Caucus , attacked Trump’s policy and said, “President Trump is claiming the power to control our lives by enacting a more expansive Ban targeting 19 countries. This policy will tear families apart worldwide, preventing people from being together during life’s critical moments.”
Trump’s draconian new ban denies countless people the freedom to move, travel, and reunite with loved ones.

She also emphasised the impact of this decision on the marginalized communities and said, “Through dehumanizing lies and erratic policies, the federal government is pointing the finger at aspiring citizens, students, immigrant families, and Asian, African, Latin, and Muslim Americans, hoping to distract us as they destroy our jobs, healthcare, and schools - the real solutions we need for well-being and prosperity”
Trump, in his first tenure, had imposed a similar ban on multiple Muslim and African countries. This ban was lifted by his successor, President Joe Biden, soon after assuming office.
Talking about the consequences of the ban, ALC said, “Five years ago, communities celebrated as President Biden rescinded Trump’s Muslim and African Bans. Trump’s first term Bans left thousands of people with visas and dreams stranded at airports around the world, separated families for years, denied students educational opportunities, and subjected Arab, African, and Muslim communities to suspicion and isolation.”
Kohli explicitly declared ALC’s stand on the issue and said, “We refuse to comply with this administration’s agenda of control and intimidation. This sweeping travel ban is just one tool in a broader strategy to consolidate power by scapegoating communities and manufacturing fear.”
