Congressman Suhas Subramanyam said that the "tenuous ceasefire with questionable terms" is not good enough, reacting to the House GOP's push to block the War Powers Resolution Act on April 9.
Subramanyam's reaction came hours after the Republicans in the House put an end to the latest Democratic efforts to end the U.S.-Iran war, as Donald Trump's party continued to prevent efforts to rein in the Republican president's war powers.
Republicans view their vote as supporting the president's constitutional authority as commander-in-chief and allege that the resolutions are politically motivated, especially after a ceasefire was announced.

The upset is the most recent one in a long list of attempts by the Democrats to chain President Trump's war efforts and comes days after Trump announced a ceasefire with Iran. The ceasefire plan has already seen fractures with Iran and the United States diverged on whether their agreement includes Israel and Lebanon, as Israel continues to mount attacks on Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah.
Reacting to this, Congressman Subramanyam, who had co-sponsored the bill, said in a statement, "I showed up today because this war needs to end. President Trump got us into this war without authorization from Congress or buy-in from the American people."
He continued, "13 Americans have lost their lives and hundreds have been wounded. Trump has spent billions in taxpayer dollars while alienating our closest allies."
Subramanyam also claimed that the current situation is worse than when the United States had started mounting an attack on Iran, an attack described as a pre-emptive strike by the United States leadership. This view, however, has been contradicted by President Trump, who views the present situation as a "total and complete victory".
Subramanyam noted that the control of the Strait of Hormuz is in Iran’s hands and the region and world are less stable. Subramanyam also noted that the Iranian leadership is now younger and more radical, and any goodwill that the United States had with the Iranian people has been lost.
Highlighting his concerns with the ceasefire agreement, Subramanyam said, "The President agreed to a tenuous ceasefire with questionable terms, and this isn’t good enough.
He added, "We tried to pass a War Powers Resolution unanimously today and House Republicans blocked it. The full Congress must come back to DC right now to vote on Trump’s war of choice and rein in his actions."
