He warned that limiting the flow of classified information to Congress would violate that legal requirement and undermine the system of checks and balances.

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi urged the Trump administration to rescind reported plans to restrict the flow of classified intelligence to Congress following the June 21 Operation Midnight Hammer—a coordinated U.S. strike targeting Iranian nuclear sites.

In a letter addressed to President Donald J. Trump, Krishnamoorthi expressed concern over the administration’s reported decision to curtail intelligence sharing in the wake of a leak related to the operation.

“As a Member of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, I strongly believe that leaks of classified information must be investigated to hold those responsible accountable,” Krishnamoorthi wrote.

“Congressional intelligence committees also have an obligation to conduct oversight... and U.S. law clearly states that ‘The President shall ensure that the congressional intelligence committees are kept fully and currently informed of the intelligence activities of the United States,” he added.

He warned that limiting the flow of classified information to Congress would violate that legal requirement and undermine the system of checks and balances. “Your Administration’s plans to limit sharing sensitive information with Congress... would not comply with the law,” he wrote.

The letter follows reports of conflicting assessments regarding the effectiveness of the June 21 strikes. While Trump and senior officials have claimed that the attacks “completely and totally obliterated” the targeted facilities, preliminary reports suggest that the damage may have been limited, with uranium-enriched material reportedly relocated in advance of the operation.

“These conflicting reports are deeply alarming and require further evaluation from the intelligence community,” Krishnamoorthi wrote, emphasizing the need for timely and unfiltered access to operational analyses.

He concluded the letter by urging Trump to reverse course and “reaffirm [his] commitment to transparency and accountability in matters of national security.”
