Representatives Raja Krishnamoorthi and Suhas Subramanyam along with Stephen Lynch, have called on Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. to explain why the agency has not responded to multiple requests for information about foodborne illness outbreaks and disease surveillance.
In a letter sent June 23, 2025, the members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, of which Krishnamoorthi is a member, expressed concern over what they described as “continued concern over the Trump Administration’s rollback of lifesaving food inspection and disease surveillance activities”. They cited the termination of thousands of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) employees and the failure to inform the public about threats to food safety.
