Indian-origin researcher Pratik Deokar receives ASHRAE honor

Indian-origin research engineer Pratik Deokar has received the George B. Hightower Technical Achievement Award from ASHRAE, one of the leading professional societies in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration industry.

The award was presented at ASHRAE's 2026 Annual Conference in Austin, Texas.

The George B. Hightower Technical Achievement Award recognizes excellence in volunteer service in Technical Committee, Technical Group and Technical Research Group activities within ASHRAE.

Deokar is a research engineer at Rheem Manufacturing Company in Lewisville, Texas. He earned his undergraduate degree from Savitribai Phule Pune University in Maharashtra before completing a PhD at Auburn University in the United States, where his research focused on heat transfer, refrigeration and nanolubricants. He has been an ASHRAE member since 2011.

At Rheem, Deokar works in the air conditioning division, where his research focuses on heat exchangers and refrigerant systems. He has published multiple papers in ASHRAE journals and Science and Technology for the Built Environment, and holds patents filed through Rheem's intellectual property program.

ASHRAE, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, presented its annual Honors and Awards during the conference to recognize member contributions in leadership, technical service, standards development and research.

"ASHRAE's strength is built on the expertise, dedication and leadership of its members," 2025-26 ASHRAE President Bill McQuade said in a statement issued by the organization. "This year's Honors and Awards recipients have made meaningful contributions to our Society, our industry and the communities we serve."

Other recipients included Iain Walker of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, who received the Donald Bahnfleth Environmental Health Award, and Steven Emmerich of the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology, who received the Standards Achievement Award.
