The Consulate General of India in New York partnered with Bengaluru-based information technology, consulting, and business process services company Wipro for a discussion on Global Capability Centers (GCCs) and the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) in India.
The event was held against the backdrop of Wipro launching a new hub in Gujarat's GIFT City earlier this year to provide AI-powered technology and consulting services for global banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) clients.
The facility was designed to accommodate 150 employees initially and has plans to expand to 500. It will focus on digital banking, capital markets, regulatory technology, risk management, and AI-driven financial solutions.
Led by Consul General of India Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, attendees also discussed Odisha as an attractive destination for GCCs.
In his address, CGI Pradhan highlighted the growing importance of India as a trusted partner and its immense potential as a global innovation and talent hub.
The significance of Odisha in the dialogue was underscored by the presence of Vishal Dev, the additional chief secretary of Odisha.
Dev presented the incentives Odisha is offering to attract GCCs and IT-related investment.

He highlighted the advantages of setting up GCCs in GIFT City.
The discussion covered key themes, including scaling and upskilling GCCs; the four C drivers—cost, control, capability, and carbon; the transition from people-centric to technology-driven models; AI-led transformation; and India's emergence as a global GCC hub with more than 2,100 centers.
Leaders from the technology industry associated with GCCs shared valuable insights into India's evolving GCC landscape and the changes taking place in this area.
