Maya Kaimal brings Desi-Chinese flavors to U.S.

Indian food brand Maya Kaimal Foods has launched a seven-product retail line introducing Indo Chinese fusion cuisine to the U.S. mass market, marking the first widely accessible packaged retail collection of its kind in American grocery stores.
Also known as "Desi Chinese," the culinary style originated in the 19th century among Chinese immigrant communities in Kolkata, India. It pairs soy-forward, wok-style cooking with traditional Indian aromatics, including ginger, garlic, and green chili.
The collection features ready-to-eat Pineapple and Toasted Garlic Fried Rice, Hakka and Sweet Chili Crisp Noodles, alongside Soy Ginger, Hot Garlic, and Honey Chili Stir-Fry Sauces. According to company representatives, the launch represents the first widely accessible packaged retail line focused on Indo-Chinese food in American grocery stores.

"Chinese Indian food has been part of everyday life in India for generations and a huge source of joy for me, with these beautiful flavors that feel so distinct yet so familiar. I can't wait for American home cooks to experience that same thrill of bold, craveable food, but in minutes,” said Indian-American founder Maya Kaimal, a former Saveur magazine editor and Julia Child Award-winning cookbook author who launched the brand in 2003.
The product expansion follows the brand’s earlier launch of an Indian-style chili crisp, which blended the Indian tarka tempering technique with Chinese chili oil traditions. Company executives noted that all new items are crafted without artificial flavors or preservatives and carry Non-GMO Project certification.
The lineup is available nationwide at Whole Foods Market and Sprouts Farmers Market. Whole Foods Market will stock the full fried rice and noodle selections across its nationwide stores. Sprouts Farmers Market locations will carry the fried rice options alongside the complete stir-fry sauce line.
