The Indian Women Association Ethiopia successfully concluded a major eyeglasses donation initiative, transforming the lives of hundreds of beneficiaries through improved vision and enhanced quality of life.
A few weeks ago, the Association organized a comprehensive eye-screening camp in which more than 400 individuals underwent professional eye examinations. Following detailed assessments, 206 beneficiaries who required corrective vision support were provided with eyeglasses free of charge.
The distribution event was marked by emotional and inspiring moments as recipients shared their gratitude and spoke about how better vision would positively impact their daily lives, education, employment and overall well-being. The initiative highlighted the importance of accessible eye care and the profound difference it can make in empowering communities.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Anil Rai praised the humanitarian effort and the commitment of the Indian community in Ethiopia.
"This eyeglasses donation initiative reflects the spirit of service, compassion and community engagement that strengthens the bonds between India and Ethiopia. Restoring clear vision is not merely a health care intervention; it empowers individuals to pursue education, livelihoods and a better quality of life. I commend the Indian Women Association Ethiopia and all volunteers for their dedication to making a meaningful difference in the lives of so many people," said Anil Rai.
Harshita Rai, representing the Indian Women Association Ethiopia, expressed her appreciation to all those who contributed to the success of the program.
"The smiles and gratitude of the beneficiaries have been the greatest reward for all of us. Seeing people receive eyeglasses that will help them read, work, study and live more confidently is truly inspiring. We are grateful to everyone who supported this initiative and remain committed to serving the community through impactful humanitarian efforts," she said.
