The Indian embassy in the United Arab Emirates has issued an advisory for inbound Indian passengers, urging them to reschedule non-essential travel through Dubai International Airport.

This comes after the city received record rainfall causing extensive flooding and disruptions in operations at Dubai airport.

Due to disruption caused by unprecedented weather conditions in the UAE earlier this week, Dubai International Airport has temporarily limited the number of inbound flights,” the Indian embassy’s advisory released on Apr.19 said.

The advisory urged passengers to check the status of their flight as major airlines, including Air India and SpiceJet, have reported delays and cancellations due to ongoing operational challenges.

"We are doing our best to get affected customers on their way by re-accommodating them on flights as soon as operations resume," Air India stated on social media platform X. The airline also announced a one-time waiver on rescheduling and full refunds for affected passengers with valid tickets until Apr. 21, 2024.

Similarly, SpiceJet issued a passenger advisory, informing travelers about flight disruptions and the shift of some operations to Fujairah due to the flooding in Dubai.

In its advisory, the Indian embassy acknowledged the unprecedented nature of the situation, as efforts to normalize operations continue amidst the aftermath of the heavy rains.

Dubai International Airport, one of the busiest hubs globally, has been grappling with flight disruptions since the onset of the rainfall earlier this week. The airport management has restricted incoming flights, while Emirates, the flagship carrier of the UAE, suspended check-in services for passengers with onward connections through Dubai on Apr.19.

India's leading airlines, IndiGo and Air India, have also been impacted, with numerous flight cancellations reported over the past few days.
