Thalappil Pradeep / IIT MADRAS
Professor Thalappil Pradeep of IIT-Madras has been elected a full member of the European Academy of Engineering (EAE), becoming the third Indian to receive the distinction.
Pradeep, a professor in the Department of Chemistry at IIT-Madras and the Deepak Parekh Institute Chair Professor, follows professors C.N.R. Rao and Biman Bagchi of IISc Bengaluru as the two Indian scientists to be members of the EAE.

The recognition honors his pioneering contributions to nanoscience, water purification and affordable clean water technologies, which have enabled millions of people across India to access safe drinking water free from contaminants such as arsenic and pesticides.
He is also the founder of the International Centre for Clean Water (ICCW), which works to accelerate the translation of laboratory discoveries into technologies for a water-secure world.
His research spans nanomaterials, molecular systems, microdroplets, ice chemistry, clusters, surfaces and spectroscopy, bringing together fundamental chemistry, materials science and engineering.
The EAE election comes soon after his selection for the ANRF J.C. Bose Grant, marking his third five-year term under the recognition.

His distinguished honors include the Padma Shri, Vigyan Shri, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, TWAS Prize in Chemistry, Eni Award and VinFuture Prize.
With Nobel laureates, Fields Medalists and Turing Award winners among its members, the European Academy of Engineering recognition is a significant global acknowledgment of Indian scientific excellence.
IIT-Madras, in a post on X, congratulated Pradeep on the recognition.
