An INR 40 lakh (US $43,000) student loan, a mortgaged family property, and a one-way ticket marked the starting point of Priyanka Vergadia’s journey from a small town in India to a senior leadership role at Microsoft.
In a heartfelt reel on instagram, Vergadia, the senior director for developer GTM and marketing at Microsoft looked back on her journey, recalling her decision to take her first flight to the U.S. despite the uncertainty that lay ahead.

“There was a quiet pressure that I didn’t fully understand yet but could feel,” she said. “It was my first time leaving home. My first time being completely on my own.”
