Ganti Abhishek, who moved to London from Andhra Pradesh, India, in 2023 to pursue an MBA degree, passed away in a house fire in Croydon on Feb. 23.

The London Fire Brigade reported that six fire engines and about 40 firefighters responded to a fire on Duppas Hill Terrace in Croydon, South London, following reports that the blaze broke out on the ground and first floors of a two-story house.

Abhishek was declared dead at the scene, while a second individual is in critical condition in hospital and a third left the premises before the brigade arrived.

The third individual is suffering from smoke inhalation and was taken to the hospital by the London Ambulance Service.

Authorities believe that Abhishek, a native of the Kondayyapeta area in Peddapuram town of Kakinada district, may have died due to suffocation from heavy smoke.

After earning his MBA degree, Abhishek stayed in London for higher studies and career opportunities.

The UK Consulate in London has informed his family about the tragic incident and is helping with the necessary formalities, including arrangements to repatriate the body to his native village.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
