Nalanda University invites global students for post-grad courses

The residential university currently draws students from over 30 countries.

Nalanda University, an Institution of National Importance established by an Act of Parliament and functioning under the aegis of the Ministry of External Affairs, has announced the commencement of admissions for its master’s programmes for the academic year 2026-27.

Inviting applications from around the world, the university said the admissions process is now open.

The university carries forward the legacy of the ancient seat of learning of its 5th-century namesake, globally known for academic excellence, intercultural dialogue and knowledge exchange.

Located in Rajgir, Bihar, India, the university is dedicated to delivering world-class education and research. It emphasizes global perspectives, interdisciplinary approaches and regional collaboration.

Fostering an authentically international academic atmosphere, the university aligns its vision with principles of sustainable development, peace and inclusive growth. It draws talented students from around the world, with individuals from over 30 countries currently living and studying on its vibrant campus.

The university’s master’s programmes provide students with robust theoretical foundations, practical skills and advanced research training, empowering them to tackle pressing contemporary global issues effectively.

Highlighting the real-world applications of the courses, the university said in a statement, “These programmes have strong relevance and scope in today’s evolving world, particularly in areas such as sustainable development, environment and ecology, international relations, Buddhist studies, historical studies, economics, mathematics, philosophy, Hindu studies and world literature in English.”

It added, “Graduates of Nalanda University are well-positioned for careers in academia, research, the development sector, policy institutions, international organizations and industry, as well as for pursuing doctoral studies.”

The university is offering two-year postgraduate programmes in fields such as Buddhist studies, philosophy and comparative religions, Hindu studies, historical studies, world literature, ecology and environment studies, MBA in sustainable development and management, international relations and peace studies, archaeology, economics, mathematics, Hindi and philosophy.

The university will accept applications until June 15, 2026.
