California State Legislature Honors JAINA / JAINA
In a historic recognition for the Jain community across North America, the California State Legislature has honored the Federation of Jain Associations in North America (JAINA), recognizing its over 45 years of dedicated service to society promoting nonviolence, compassion, environmental stewardship and community service.
The commemorative proceedings opened on Aug. 5, when California Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis received a delegation of JAINA leadership at her office in Sacramento.
During the meeting, the delegates shared JAINA’s reach across North America and discussed how core Jain values apply to modern societal and environmental issues. Lt. Gov. Kounalakis commended the Jain community for its sustained impact both in California and nationally.
The delegation included JAINA President Atul Shah, First Vice President Dr. Jayesh Shah, Past President Prem Jain, Treasurer Biren Shah, Regional Vice Presidents Yogesh Bapna and Apurva Bhansali, alongside community leader Ajay Bhutoria.

Led by Assemblymember Alex Lee, alongside Assemblymembers Ash Kalra and Dr. Darshana R. Patel, and Sen. Dave Cortese, the Legislature presented JAINA with an official Assembly Resolution commemorating the organization’s 45th anniversary and recognizing its outstanding contributions to the people of California and North America.
“This recognition belongs to every JAINA volunteer, member Jain Center, donor and leader,” Bapna stated, emphasizing that core Jain principles continue to align deeply with the values of California and the nation.
Supported by the Jain Center of Greater Sacramento and volunteers nationwide, JAINA reaffirmed its commitment to advancing peace, ethical living and interfaith harmony for future generations.
