Former federal prosecutor and senior Justice Department official Hetal Doshi has announced her candidacy for Colorado Attorney General.
“I haven’t spent my career in politics. I’ve been a longtime public servant focused on protecting people. But some moments demand action — and for me, this is that moment,” Doshi said launching her campaign in June.

In a video statement, Doshi recalled her father’s journey to the United States from India as a young man who “was alone, scared, but looking for a better life.” She said that photo of him before leaving for America has sat in her office her entire career. “My hardest day will never compare to the day that my father left everything behind for a shot at something better,” she said.

Raised in a working-class household, Doshi described moving frequently, doing homework while her mother worked at Dairy Queen, and helping her family clean motel rooms on weekends. “I was lucky. I’m the proud product of a great public education. I earned scholarships to college and law school,” she said, adding that she pursued law to “challenge those who stood in between families like ours and a real future.”
Her legal career spans nearly two decades. As an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Colorado, Doshi prosecuted corrupt public officials, corporate executives, fraudsters, and scammers, including cases involving seniors, veterans, and hate crimes. She also pursued major banks following the 2008 financial crisis, securing billions in recoveries for the American people.
Later, as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division, she oversaw more than 800 public servants in cases against some of the country’s largest corporations. Her record includes suing Google and Apple, challenging mergers that raised grocery and healthcare costs, and taking on Ticketmaster. “I’ve spent my career taking on the biggest fights against the baddest actors and winning for you,” she said.
Doshi highlighted her candidacy as a response to what she called threats from President Donald Trump and “politicians who have abandoned patriotism for power.” She pledged to protect working families, pursue corporate accountability, and safeguard Colorado’s natural resources. “As attorney general, I’ll stand between the people of Colorado and Donald Trump’s all-out attack on the rule of law,” she said.
Her campaign has already received support from national organizations. Indian American Impact endorsed her candidacy, saying she has “built a career standing up for fairness and accountability in the justice system” and would “put people over powerful interests.”
