Majority of the Morrisville Town Council has announced its support for Satish Garimella in the upcoming mayoral election, strengthening his challenge to incumbent Mayor TJ Cawley.
Garimella, who serves as Morrisville Mayor Pro Tem, formally filed his candidacy earlier this year, framing his campaign around inclusivity and growth. Announcing the endorsement by council members, he said in a post on X, “When the majority of Morrisville Town Council backs Satish over the current mayor, it’s time to ask: how’s the current leadership working out for you? It’s time to think about a fresh vision for the future of our town. Change is here.”

“I want to see a Morrisville where everyone belongs—from rising professionals and growing families to thriving seniors. I’m ready for this journey, but I can’t do this alone,” he added in another post.
Garimella has served on the Town Council since 2015 and was unanimously selected as Mayor Pro Tem in 2023. In May 2025, he was elected second vice president of the North Carolina League of Municipalities, becoming the first Asian American and Indian American to hold an executive leadership position in the body.

He has served on the League’s Board since 2020, contributing to its Legislative, Finance, and Governance Committees. Earlier this month, he was also named a 2025 SPARC Fellow, an honor awarded to leaders advancing equity and inclusion for disabled Americans in the South.
Outside of public service, Garimella has built a long career in technology and management. Since 2020, he has worked as Senior Product Manager in Enterprise Data and AI Analytics at GSK. He previously spent two decades at AT&T in senior technical and leadership roles and earlier served as a Senior Software Engineer at Sprint.
His leadership training includes a distinction in Public Leadership and Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School, participation in the UNC School of Government’s Advanced Leadership Corp, and recognition as a Friday Fellow in public relations and image management.
Garimella earned a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Tulsa and a bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering from the University of Mumbai. He also completed a certificate in computer applications from CDAC Pune.
Indian American Impact, a national organization that promotes the community in government has also endorsed his campaign. “I am honored to receive the endorsement of IA Impact, an organization dedicated to building a more fair and just world—one in which all Americans have the opportunities needed to thrive,” Garimella said.
The mayoral election in Morrisville is scheduled for Nov. 4. Alongside Garimella and Mayor Cawley, Richard Reinhart has also entered the race.
