“We are deeply shocked by the tragic mass shooting in Austin, Texas on West Sixth Street, where innocent lives were lost, and many more were injured,” the organization said.
“We condemn all acts of violence and call on law enforcement to conduct a thorough, transparent, and professional investigation so that justice is served. In this time of grief, may our communities stand together with compassion, resilience, and a renewed commitment to safety for all," the organization added.
Authorities said the shooting occurred around 2 a.m. in Austin’s West Sixth Street entertainment district. Local police confirmed that three civilians were killed and 14 others injured. Federal agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, are assisting in the investigation, which officials said is being examined as a potential act of terrorism.
Among those killed was 21-year-old Indian-American student Savitha Shan, a senior at the University of Texas at Austin, according to authorities. The suspected gunman was shot and killed by responding officers. The motive remains under investigation.
