Raja Krishnamoorthi accused the Trump administration of imposing repeated federal funding freezes aimed at Illinois, calling the actions politically motivated and pledging resistance.

Speaking at his U.S. Senate campaign event, the Democrat said, “This is crazy. The president is going after Illinois because we stand up to him. And we are not going to not stand up to him.”

Framing the issue as one of three “non-negotiable” priorities in his U.S. Senate campaign, Krishnamoorthi outlined the scope of what he described as constant freezes across healthcare, education, childcare, infrastructure, and public transit grants.

He said he would “absolutely protect Social Security and Medicare, whatever it takes,” describing them as earned benefits and asserting they are “under attack constantly by the Trump administration.”

He also reiterated his position on reproductive rights, stating, “We will not compromise on this issue,” and adding that Illinois would “always remain an oasis for reproductive freedom” and that he would “always vote accordingly.”

Krishnamoorthi has represented Illinois’ 8th Congressional District since 2017 and is running for U.S. Senate in 2026. The primary is set for March 17.
