The University of Texas at Austin will host the eighth edition of JEENA, a national South Asian a cappella competition, on Feb. 21, at Hogg Memorial Auditorium.
The event, organized by the Indian Students Association (ISA) in partnership with the South Asia Institute at UT-Austin, will bring collegiate a cappella teams from across the United States to Austin.

According to the organizers, the competition is designed to showcase South Asian musical talent while highlighting the fusion of South Asian music with Western a cappella traditions.
The event is also part of a wider effort to position UT Austin as a key host institution within the national South Asian a cappella circuit, a collegiate competition network that spans multiple regional events across the country.
South Asian a cappella has developed into a structured inter-university competition scene in the United States over the past decade, with events held in several major cities and a national championship held each spring under the Association of South Asian A Cappella (ASA).
Launched in 2017, JEENA has become a regular stop on this circuit. Previous editions have featured teams from universities including Rutgers, Purdue, Rice, Texas A&M, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Carnegie Mellon University, according to past campus records.
The name “Jeena,” which means “to live,” is used by organisers to reflect the emphasis on cultural expression and musical fusion that defines the competition.
JEENA will also include special performances by UT Austin dance teams.
