US agencies scramble to reassure workers after Trump’s $100K H-1B fee
The new rule does not affect beneficiaries of petitions filed before the deadline, current visa holders, or those with approved petitions.

A day after President Donald J. Trump ordered sweeping new restrictions on H-1B visas, US agencies scrambled to reassure workers and companies that the USD100,000 surcharge will apply only to future petitions, even as panic spread among Indian tech workers and disrupted flights.
Trump on Sept. 19 signed an executive order proclamation restricting the entry of certain nonimmigrant workers, citing “systemic abuse” of the H-1B visa program. The order directs that new employment-based petitions will be denied unless accompanied by an additional payment of USD100,000.
