The Bharatiya Senior Citizens of Chicago (BSC) organized its annual Tulsi Vivah ceremony at the Manav Seva Mandir in Bensenville, Illinois, on Nov. 2.

Tulasi Vivah is a Hindu ritual in which a symbolic ceremonial wedding takes place between a tulasi plant and a shaligrama. Tulasi Vivah signifies the end of the monsoon, and the beginning of the wedding season in Hinduism.

Attended by over 500 community members, the festivities started with 'Vargodo', a traditional song and parade. This was followed by 'Lagna Vidhi', the wedding rituals, which were accompanied by live 'lagna geet', wedding songs.

The attendees were treated to a rounded cultural experience with not just religious celebrations but also Indian food.

This year’s Devi Tulsi Yajmans were Mansukhbhai and Geetaben Kheni, while Shree Krishna Yajmans were Dr. Prakashbhai and Sonalben Shah.
