The US State Department has fired a Foreign Service Officer for concealing a romantic relationship with a Chinese national linked to the Chinese Communist Party, in a move officials say is the first dismissal of its kind under a new presidential directive reinforcing executive control over foreign policy.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, with President Donald Trump’s approval, has dismissed a Foreign Service Officer (FSO) who admitted to hiding a romantic relationship with a Chinese national connected to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the State Department confirmed Oct. 8.
