Starbucks’ Sanjay Shah joins Matternet board
In his role, he will help Matternet scale its commercial drone delivery platform, strengthening operations and supply-chain strategy across markets.

California-based drone delivery company Matternet has appointed Indian-American executive Sanjay Shah to its board of directors as it accelerates the commercial expansion of its autonomous delivery platform.
Shah, executive vice president and chief supply chain officer at Starbucks, brings more than three decades of experience leading global operations and supply chains across industries, having held senior leadership roles at Gopuff, Beyond Meat, Tesla, Amazon and Dell.
His appointment is expected to strengthen Matternet's operational and logistics expertise as the company expands drone delivery services for health care, food and retail customers.

Shah said conventional last-mile delivery systems face significant limitations and described drone logistics as a transformative solution. He said Matternet has developed an integrated platform combining aircraft, ground infrastructure and software to automate end-to-end deliveries and added that he looks forward to helping the company expand its network for enterprise customers.
“Matternet has built a unique technology platform that integrates aircraft, ground infrastructure, and software to automate the delivery process end-to-end. I am delighted to join the Board and look forward to helping the company scale its network to serve the logistics needs of large enterprise customers,” Shah said in a statement.
Shah joined Starbucks in 2025 as executive vice president and chief supply chain officer. Before that, he served as senior vice president of operations at Gopuff, chief operating officer at Beyond Meat, senior vice president at Tesla and vice president of North American customer fulfillment at Amazon. Earlier in his career, he held senior leadership positions at Dell.

He brings the discipline, judgment, and executional depth required to turn breakthrough technology into infrastructure that can operate reliably at global scale. That experience will be invaluable as we build Matternet into the world’s leading drone delivery platform,” said Andreas Raptopoulos, Founder and CEO of Matternet.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Shah earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and previously pursued a civil engineering degree from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.
