Dalhousie University honors Indian-origin educators with teaching awards
Sampangi and Sundararajan were honored for advancing inclusive, student-centered education through innovative teaching, equitable learning practices, and leadership that foster belonging and academic excellence.

Canada’s Dalhousie University has named two Indian-origin faculty among the 2026 recipients of its university-wide teaching awards for their outstanding contributions to teaching, learning, and student success across the institution.
Raghav Sampangi received the newly renamed President's Award for Outstanding Contributions to Teaching and Learning, and Binod Sundararajan received the Award for Excellence in Education for Equity.
Sampangi, a university teaching fellow in the Faculty of Computer Science, received the university's highest teaching distinction, which recognizes his inclusive, student-centred approach to computing education and his commitment to creating engaging learning environments.

According to the university, Sampangi has transformed the student experience through innovative teaching methods, inclusive assessment practices, and leadership in curriculum development. His work has helped students develop both technical expertise and a strong sense of belonging within the Faculty of Computer Science.
He earned his PhD from Dalhousie University, M.Tech from the University of Mysore, India, and B.Engg from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, India.
Sundararajan, professor in the Faculty of Management and director of Dalhousie's Inclusion Foundation, was honored for his efforts to foster inclusive learning and workplace environments by advancing equity, accessibility, neurodiversity, and cross-cultural understanding across the Dalhousie community.
He earned a B.E. from Manipal University, Mangalore, India, MSc and PhD from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy NY, USA.
The 2026 teaching awards highlight educators whose work extends beyond the classroom to strengthen teaching excellence throughout the university. This year's recipients represent a range of disciplines and have been recognized for innovations that enhance student learning, improve accessibility, and encourage inclusive educational practices.
