Indian-born British surgeon Prokar Dasgupta has performed the United Kingdom’s first-ever long-distance robot-assisted prostate surgery on a patient located 1,500 miles (2,400 km) away in Gibraltar.
Dasgupta carried out the prostatectomy, a removal of the prostate gland, in real time through telesurgery using the Toumai Robotic System, in a collaboration between The London Clinic and the Gibraltar Health Authority.
