National Gatka championship held in New York

The New York Gatka Association clinched the maiden overall trophy.

The New York Gatka Association hosted the 3rd US National Gatka Championship 2025 in New York on Oct. 12.

Held under the aegis of Gatka Federation USA, the national event witnessed participation from over 125 attendees representing different State Gatka Associations and Akharas in the USA.

Gatka, a traditional martial art, is an important part of Sikh culture, with this event offering a great opportunity to highlight a unique and powerful cultural tradition.

The New York Gatka Association clinched the maiden overall trophy with Kansas Gatka Association finishing runners-up and Massachusetts Gatka Association securing third place.

The event also featured special guests including Kalvinder Singh Fresno, the President Gatka Federation USA and the Chairman World Gatka Federation (WGF), Dr Deep Singh General Secretary of WGF, Swaranjit Singh councilman from Norwich, Connecticut, along with several other dignitaries.

In the Single Soti Individual Under- 21 men's event, Harmeet Singh, Mandeep Singh and Sandeep Singh secured first, second and third positions respectively. In the girl’s category, Gurvinder Kaur, Harnoor Kaur, and Sharan Kaur secured first, second and third positions respectively.

In the Single Soti under 17 Girls event Oneet Kaur clinched first position, Gurkeerat Kaur came second and Seerat Kaur came third. In the under 17 boys category, Manpreet Singh, Anmolpreet Singh and Karanpreet Singh secured top positions.

In the Under-14 girl’s Demonstration event, Seerat Kaur, Sonampreet Kaur and Erleen Kaur Bali secured first, second and third places respectively. In the boy’s category of the division, Harjaap Singh and Puneet Singh clinched the top positions.

Officials from Gatka Federation USA congratulated all the winners of the Championship and thanked all volunteers for successfully organizing the national-level Gatka championship in New York. They also emphasized the Federation’s commitment to promoting the Sikh martial art of Gatka and assured unwavering support for all State Gatka Associations, Akharas, Academies and players.
