Maryland Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller was recognized with the Spotlight Award for her leadership and public service at the 2026 Women’s Collective Summit hosted by the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) in Arlington, Virginia.

The Aug. 6 summit, held under the theme “She Leads, We Rise,” brought together women leaders from across the country for discussions on representation, leadership, career development, work-life balance and building connections across communities.

Miller was one of two recipients of the Women’s Collective Spotlight Award, alongside Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng of Louisiana. According to APAICS, the Spotlight Award honors trailblazing women in public service.

Miller is Maryland’s 10th lieutenant governor and the first woman of color and immigrant elected to statewide office in the state. Born in Andhra Pradesh, India, she immigrated to the United States with her family at age 7. Before entering politics, she worked as a civil and transportation engineer in Montgomery County for 25 years.

APAICS described Miller as a leader whose career in engineering and public service has expanded opportunity and promoted equity for communities across Maryland. The summit also featured a fireside conversation between Miller and Lee Sheng titled “She Leads, We Rise: From Representation to Transformation.”

Madalene Xuan-Trang Mielke, president and CEO of APAICS, reflected on the event in a social media post, saying it was meaningful to see women leaders celebrated and highlighting the challenges women face while balancing leadership and personal responsibilities.
