Markey pushes for report on nuclear risks in India-Pakistan conflict zones

The report seeks to evaluate how nuclear reactors and power plants could be threatened in conflict-prone regions.

Influential Democratic Senator Edward Markey (D-Mass.) has introduced an amendment to the annual defense policy bill requiring a US government assessment of the dangers posed by nuclear reactors in potential conflict zones, including areas of tension between India and Pakistan.

The amendment to S. 2296 (National Defense Authorization Act) directs the secretary of defense and the administrator for nuclear security to submit a joint report to Congress within 120 days of enactment.
