While Kantara centered on the conflict between man, nature and spirit set in a coastal Karnataka village, Chapter 1 traces the tale to the mythological era of Kadambas in 345 AD, unfolding the story of a king blessed by Lord Shiva and the legacy of the Panjurli Daiva (boar deity). It seeks to establish the cultural and spiritual foundations that later culminate in the events of the original film.
The movie, which also features Sapthami Gowda alongside Shetty, has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification with a UA certificate, requiring only one minor cut. It is slated for a worldwide release on Oct. 2 in multiple languages, including Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam, coinciding with the festive holiday season.
The overseas campaign, led by Prathyangira Cinemas, has emphasized large-scale premieres, innovative ticketing promotions, and wide distribution across North America.
According to trade sources, U.S. pre-sales initially hovered around $190,000 before surging past the $300,000 mark, highlighting a late rush of interest in advance bookings.
