New York State Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar has secured endorsements from 1199SEIU, the country’s largest healthcare workers union, and Eleanor’s Legacy, a group that backs Democratic women candidates for her re-election bid in Queens.

In a statement, 1199SEIU said it was “proud to endorse Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar because she brings heart, deep commitment, and a proven track record to the fight for working people.”

“She has a real personal connection to healthcare workers and a clear understanding of the sacrifices our members make every day. Assemblywoman Rajkumar has shown us that she is not afraid to stand up, speak out, and deliver. She is a fearless champion for workers’ rights, and our union is proud to stand with her,” said Dell Smitherman, political and campaigns director for 1199SEIU New York.

Announcing the endorsement, Rajkumar said, “I’m deeply honored to have the support of the workers who care for us in our hardest moments and keep New York running. Together, we will keep fighting for dignity, protection, and real results for working people.”

1199SEIU, which represents hundreds of thousands of healthcare workers across New York and nationally, is a major political force in state and city elections, often backing candidates aligned with labor and healthcare priorities.

Rajkumar also announced support from Eleanor’s Legacy, which focuses on electing Democratic women to public office in New York.

“As the first woman ever to represent my assembly district, I am especially honored to earn the endorsement of Eleanor’s Legacy,” she said.

Rajkumar, the first South Asian woman elected to the New York State Assembly, has highlighted issues including worker protections, anti-hate initiatives, and economic support for small businesses.

The latest endorsements build on earlier backing from labor groups and Democratic organizations, including 32BJ SEIU, the Hotel and Gaming Trades Council, IBEW Local 3, and the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association.

Her campaign has also drawn support from senior Democratic leaders, including U.S. Representative Gregory Meeks, reflecting backing within the Queens Democratic establishment.

Rajkumar, a Democrat representing parts of Queens including Richmond Hill and South Ozone Park, is seeking another term in a district with a large immigrant and working-class population.

The Democratic primary is scheduled for June 23, followed by the general election on Nov. 3.
