JAINA honors Ajay Bhutoria at California State Capitol

The Federation of Jain Associations in North America (JAINA) honored Democratic Indian American community leader and former adviser to President Joe Biden, Ajay Jain Bhutoria,with the Distinguished Civic, Legislative, and Public Service Leadership Award during a special ceremony at the California State Capitol.
The event brought together state legislators and JAINA leaders to celebrate the organization’s 45 years of community service and recognize Bhutoria’s efforts to promote inclusive governance, civic engagement and stronger connections between public policy and community values.

Bhutoria, along with state Sen. Dave Cortese and Assemblymember Alex Lee, co-hosted formal recognition of JAINA on the floors of the California State Assembly and Senate, marking the organization’s 45 years of service.
The award recognized Bhutoria for his public service, leadership and commitment to building stronger communities. It also cited his support for recognizing JAINA at the State Capitol and his efforts to promote the Jain values of peace, nonviolence, compassion, religious harmony and community service.

In recognition of your outstanding public service, visionary leadership, and commitment to building stronger communities. With sincere appreciation for your support in recognizing the Federation of Jain Associations in North America (JAINA) at the California State Capitol and for promoting the universal values of peace, nonviolence, compassion, religious harmony, and community service. Your partnership and dedication to serving the people of California are deeply appreciated and will remain an inspiration for generations to come," award plaque presented to Bhutoria read.
In a social media post following the ceremony, Bhutoria thanked JAINA for the recognition and described it as an acknowledgment of a shared commitment to public service, inclusive communities and the universal values of peace and Ahimsa, or nonviolence. "Together, we remain dedicated to promoting the universal values of peace, nonviolence (Ahimsa), compassion, and community service across California," Bhutoria said.
The JAINA delegation presenting the honor included Prem Jain, Jayesh Shah, Biren Shah, Apoorva Bhansali and Yogesh Bafna. Legislators attending or participating in the event included Lee, Assemblymember Darshana Patel, Assemblymember Ash Kalra and Cortese.
The ceremony highlighted the increasing visibility of Indian American and South Asian leaders in California’s civic and political life while recognizing JAINA’s decades-long commitment to community service, harmony and civic engagement.
