Indian-origin pole vaulter Khushnoor Rungi has been selected to represent Australia at the World U20 Athletics Championships in the U.S. in August.
Khushnoor, from Victoria, has earned her place in Australia's biggest-ever World U20 Athletics squad after meeting the qualifying standard with a personal-best clearance of 4.17 meters.
Over the past three years, Khushnoor has firmly established herself as one of Australia's premier U20 pole vaulters, consistently finishing among the nation's top two athletes in her age group, Maribyrnong Sports Academy said in a statement.
Representing Australia in the green and gold is a testament to Khushnoor's hard work, dedication and perseverance, and everyone at the Maribyrnong Sports Academy is incredibly proud of what she has achieved, it said.
The announcement was welcomed by the Indian Australian community, which said her selection reflected the growing contribution of Australians of Indian origin across sports and other fields.
The World U20 Athletics Championships, to be held in Eugene, Oregon, from Aug. 5-9, will bring together leading under-20 athletes from around the world to compete in track and field events.
