A 22-year-old Indian-origin man was arrested in the US state of Florida for wanton reckless driving after he was caught driving at speeds of up to 125 mph while weaving through traffic in the state.

Arul Nayak of Palm Coast was arrested by Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly, who was travelling in an

unmarked agency vehicle with his wife to a dinner meeting when he spotted a white 2016 Dodge Challenger speeding south on Interstate-95, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

Staly used his vehicle's certified speedometer to pace the car between 115 and 125 mph for nearly six miles as the driver weaved across all three lanes of traffic and passed within a few feet of slower-moving vehicles, the statement said.

“The Sheriff activated his lights and siren, and the driver eventually pulled over on I-95 just south of Old Dixie Highway, in Volusia County,” the statement said.

Authorities said Nayak was taken into custody without incident.

Nayak was charged with willful and wanton reckless driving and violating Florida's "Super Speeder" law. He was lodged in the Volusia County Branch Jail on a USD 500 bond, authorities said.

Nayak, who has no prior criminal history, told Staly that he had a final pilot's examination scheduled for Saturday and hoped he would be released from jail in time to take it.

"Driving 125 miles per hour and weaving through three lanes of traffic isn't a mistake; it's a decision to gamble with everyone else's life, including the three passengers sitting in his own car," Sheriff Staly said in a statement.
