An Indian national studying biblical theology in the United States was indicted in Boston on Nov. 21 after federal prosecutors alleged he stabbed two 17-year-old passengers with a metal fork aboard a Lufthansa flight, prompting an emergency diversion to Logan International Airport.
The defendant, Praneeth Kumar Usiripalli, 28, faces two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm while traveling aboard a Lufthansa flight traveling from Chicago to Frankfurt on Oct. 25, 2025. He was arrested immediately after the flight diverted to Boston and “remains detained pending trial,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts.
