Federal support has been announced for Sai Krishna Foods, a company founded by Indian immigrants, to expand and upgrade its production facility and accelerate growth in New Brunswick.

On April 14, Dominic LeBlanc, President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister responsible for Canada-U.S. Trade, Intergovernmental Affairs, Internal Trade, and One Canadian Economy and Member of Parliament for Beauséjour, announced $541,000 in repayable federal support for the company. The funding will support facility expansion and the acquisition of new equipment.

The funding is provided through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency’s Regional Economic Growth through Innovation program. In addition, the Province of New Brunswick, through Opportunities New Brunswick, will provide up to $50,000 as a non-repayable contribution toward productivity improvements.

Sai Krishna Foods marked a major milestone with the completion of its newly upgraded food production facility in Cap-Pelé. The renovated facility offers increased production capacity, improved operational efficiency, and space for future growth. The company currently employs eight people and expects to hire additional staff in the coming months.

Since its inception, the company has expanded steadily and secured partnerships with major distributors, including Sobeys, Sysco, and Gordon Food Service, as well as hospitals and universities across Atlantic Canada. The company is pursuing expansion into national retail chains and new North American markets.

“Our goal is to expand into national retail chains, including Sobeys and Costco, across Canada. By summer 2026, we hope to see our products available in major retailers nationwide. This new facility gives us the capacity to grow, innovate, and meet rising customer demand,” said Shikha Sobti, co-founder, Sai Krishna Foods.

The latest announcement demonstrates the Government of Canada’s commitment to building a stronger economy by investing in productivity, innovation, and stronger supply chains to ensure firms have access to the support they need to adapt, modernise, and pursue new market opportunities, an official statement said.

Sean Fraser, Member of Parliament for Central Nova, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, said, “Atlantic Canada is home to innovative entrepreneurs who are creating opportunities in their communities and bringing local products to national and international markets. Sai Krishna Foods is a great example of the talent and drive that make this region such a strong place to start and grow a business. Today’s milestone highlights how local companies can scale up, create jobs, and contribute to a strong and diverse economy.”

“Supporting businesses as they expand and succeed is essential to building a vibrant and resilient economy in New Brunswick. Sai Krishna Foods’ new facility will help strengthen the region’s food manufacturing sector, create employment, and showcase the entrepreneurial spirit that defines communities like Cap-Pelé. We are proud to see this company take an exciting step forward,” said Dominic LeBlanc.

Luke Randall, minister responsible for Opportunities NB and for economic development and small business, said, “New Brunswick is home to entrepreneurs who are expanding what our economy can produce and where we can compete. Companies like Sai Krishna Foods are helping grow our food manufacturing sector, reaching new markets while creating strong local jobs and new opportunities in our communities. This is the work of Opportunities NB—helping businesses scale, strengthening our economy, and building the kind of growth our province needs right now.”

Sai Krishna Foods is a family-owned and operated business founded by Raman and Shikha Sobti, who immigrated from India to New Brunswick in 2017. Raman Sobti, a culinary professional with 26 years of international experience with Marriott International, began making samosas for local markets. The enthusiastic community response led the couple to incorporate the business in 2019.

Since then, the company has grown steadily, reflecting the Government of Canada’s broader commitment to supporting Atlantic Canadian businesses as they expand, innovate, and create jobs.
