The Consulate General of India in New York, in collaboration with the Rajasthan Association of North America (RANA), hosted a special meditation session on June 21 led by renowned yoga master H.R. Nagendra to mark the 12th International Day of Yoga.
The event brought together diplomats, academics, business leaders, representatives of yoga and spiritual organizations, and members of the Indian American community. Participants engaged in guided meditation practices and discussions on the role of yoga and meditation in promoting mental and physical well-being.

In his opening remarks, Consul General Binaya Pradhan noted the growing popularity of yoga across the United States, citing the increasing participation of yoga enthusiasts in wellness centers and public events.
Nagendra, a globally recognized expert in yoga, meditation and holistic wellness, emphasized the importance of balancing the body, mind and breath through yoga. He said meditation can help foster inner peace, mental clarity and overall well-being. Attendees welcomed the session and reflected on the continuing relevance of India’s ancient wellness traditions in modern life.
Prem Bhandari, president of RANA, said yoga represents India’s contribution to global well-being and highlighted that the United Nations-recognized International Day of Yoga, observed on June 21, is now celebrated in more than 190 countries.

The event also featured remarks from UAE Consul General Amna Almheiri, who underscored the role of such initiatives in promoting dialogue, well-being and people-to-people connections. Jonathan Granoff, president of the Global Security Institute, spoke about meditation’s potential to enhance both personal wellness and global harmony.
The session was attended by senior diplomats, including representatives from the United Arab Emirates, Serbia, Nepal, Romania and Malaysia.
