Indian-Americans donate three times more to Democratic candidates than Republican ones, according to a study analyzing two decades of U.S. campaign contributions. The study is titled, 'An emerging lobby: An analysis of campaign contributions from Indian-Americans, 1998-2022'.
The research, led by Karnav Popat and Vishnu Prakash of Ashoka University and Joyojeet Pal of the University of Michigan, tracked donations from 2000 to 2022 using Federal Election Commission records compiled by OpenSecrets. The study found that in the 2020 election cycle, Indian-Americans contributed $46.6 million to Democrats, compared with $16.3 million to Republicans.
