The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended USA Cricket's membership on Sept. 23, citing repeated violations of the ICC Constitution.

The ICC Board, which took the decision during its recent meeting, pointed to USA Cricket’s failure to establish a functional governance structure, lack of progress toward recognition by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), and actions that caused “reputational damage to cricket in the United States and around the world.”

Despite the suspension, the ICC emphasized that athletes will not be penalized. USA’s national teams will continue to participate in ICC events, including preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. To ensure continuity, the ICC and designated representatives will oversee team management and administration in the interim.

“The suspension is an unfortunate but necessary step to protect the long-term interests of the game,” the ICC said, noting that the move reflects its commitment to safeguarding cricketers’ interests in the U.S.

A normalization committee, backed by ICC management, will set out the steps required for USA Cricket to regain membership rights. These will include specific changes to governance, operations, and overall compliance. The committee will also monitor progress and provide consultative support.

USA Cricket had been placed “on notice” at the 2024 ICC Annual General Meeting and was given 12 months to resolve compliance issues. Following further warnings and commitments in 2025, the suspension was enacted after continued non-compliance.

The ICC reaffirmed its commitment to the growth of cricket in the U.S. while ensuring the sport’s pathway toward Olympic inclusion remains intact.
