The Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) appealed to President Donald Trump to reconsider or substantially reduce the new $100,000 H-1B visa fee, calling it harmful to America’s long-term economic interests.
In a letter to the White House, GOPIO international chairman Thomas Abraham and president Prakash Shah argued that the H-1B program has been vital to U.S. innovation and growth.

“The H-1B visa program has long been an essential driver of American growth and innovation and we urge the Administration to reconsider this significant fee increase, which we believe would run counter to the best interests of the United States,” Abraham said.
Shah added that excessive costs would undermine America’s edge in attracting global talent. “America has always thrived by attracting the best and brightest from around the world… a prohibitively high H-1B application fee would undermine these goals and weaken our competitive edge,” he said.
The organization stressed the program’s contributions, from fueling innovation and supporting labor markets to strengthening key industries and driving economic growth. GOPIO also urged community members to petition the White House directly through its official contact portal.
Founded in 1989, GOPIO is a global, non-profit organization with chapters in 36 countries, focused on building networks among Non-Resident Indians and People of Indian Origin.
