Event in Washington celebrates America 250 and important role of Indian Americans

Thousands of Indian Americans from across America gathered at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, DC, on July 25 to celebrate the U.S. Semiquincentennial. The bipartisan event, titled "America 250th: An Indian American Commemoration," highlighted shared values of democracy, freedom and opportunity.
The program featured a distinguished lineup of lawmakers, diplomats, business executives, physicians and spiritual leaders. It was hosted by the Indian-American Committee, a coalition of prominent organizations including the U.S. India Security Leadership Council, Indian American Impact, AAPI, the Asian American Hotel Owners Association, TiE, the American India Foundation, the Hindu American Foundation and several other civic groups.

Speakers at the event included Indian American Reps. Raja Krishnamoorthi and Suhas Subramanyam. Other participants included Raj Shah, former White House aide; Arjun Mody, deputy commissioner of the U.S. Social Security Administration; Ashok Pinto, former assistant secretary for global markets and director general of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service at the Department of Commerce; Uttam Dhillon, former deputy counsel to President Donald Trump; spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar; former American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) President Dr. Amit Chakrabarty; and Grammy-winning singer Falguni Shah.
Poster of the event. / HandoutOrganizers described the bipartisan event as a celebration of America's semiquincentennial, highlighting the growing impact of Indian Americans across business, health care, education, public service, technology and civic life.
"This is an opportunity for our community to come together—not as Republicans or Democrats, but as Americans," said Ramesh V. Kapur, co-chair of the America 250 Indian American Commemorative Celebration and president of the U.S. India Security Leadership Council. "America's 250th anniversary is a moment for all of us, regardless of political party, to celebrate the country we are proud to call home. Indian Americans are deeply grateful for the freedom and opportunities this nation provides. This event is our way of honoring America, recognizing the values that unite us, and saying thank you."
