House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries accused Republicans on Oct. 8 of manufacturing a “Republican healthcare crisis” by refusing to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits, warning that millions of Americans now face soaring premiums as the GOP-led shutdown drags into its second week.

Flanked by Whip Katherine Clark, Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, and other party leaders, Jeffries said Democrats were “on duty and ready to reopen the government” while Republicans “are on vacation.”
