Indian Americans gathered in McKinney on May 10 for an event organized by the Dallas chapter of Overseas Friends of BJP-USA to celebrate the Bharatiya Janata Party’s electoral victories in Assam, West Bengal and Puducherry, along with gains in Kerala.

The event, titled ‘Indian Diaspora in Dallas Celebrates BJP Victories in Assam, Bengal, and Puducherry,’ drew men, women and children from the Indian American community, according to organizers.

The program began with the national anthems of the United States and India, followed by ‘Vande Mataram’ and a ceremonial lamp-lighting by guests.

National Social Media Coordinator Nirmala Reddy welcomed attendees and dignitaries. Dallas Coordinator Bhima Penta presented an overview of the elections in West Bengal and Assam and discussed OFBJP’s role during the campaigns in those states.

Speakers at the gathering praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and highlighted what they described as his ability to navigate political opposition while upholding constitutional values and democratic principles.

The event also included cultural elements, with attendees served Bengali snacks including jhalmuri and laddus.

Organizers paid tribute to BJP workers whose efforts and sacrifices, they said, contributed to the party’s success. Attendees observed a one-minute silence and peace prayer in their memory. Volunteers from the OFBJP Dallas chapter were also recognized for their service and continued support to the organization.

Special guest Madhavi Kolli, vice president of BJP Telangana, addressed the gathering and spoke about her experiences campaigning in West Bengal. Kolli said she spent about 45 days in the state encouraging women voters to participate in the democratic process without fear.

She also discussed challenges faced by party workers and described the efforts of BJP volunteers working under difficult circumstances during the campaign period.

Several speakers referred to reports of post-election violence following the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, including political clashes, arson and displacement involving opposition workers and residents during that period.

Among those who spoke at the event were Nirmala Reddy, Bhima Penta, Raghav Shet, Kannan Ramanathan, Rohit Gangwal, Pankaj Kumar, Hemant Kale, Prakasarao Velagapudi and Chhaya Gayee.

A book titled ‘Narendra Modi: the Pride of Bharath,’ written by Prakasarao Velagapudi, was presented to Kolli and other dignitaries on stage.
