Families, volunteers, corporate partners, students and community supporters are expected to participate in the walkathon, which will be held simultaneously in multiple cities across the country.
According to organizers, the campaign seeks to highlight the role of school meals in improving children's access to education and overall well-being. Participants will also have the opportunity to become peer-to-peer fundraisers by creating personal fundraising pages and encouraging members of their communities to support the cause.
"One Day. One Mission. One Nation Walking Together," Akshaya Patra USA said while announcing the event.
A local chapter event hosted by Akshaya Patra USA's Dallas-Fort Worth chapter is scheduled to take place at Windhaven Meadows Park in Plano, Texas. The gathering will bring together families, students, volunteers and supporters to promote the foundation's mission of combating classroom hunger and supporting education through meal programs.
The nationwide walkathon follows similar community-led fundraising efforts organized by the foundation across the United States.
On June 7, more than 100 community members, families, youth volunteers and supporters participated in the Akshaya Patra Tri-State 5K Walk & Run at the Manalapan Recreation Center Fitness Trail in New Jersey to raise awareness and support for the organization's school meal initiatives.
The Akshaya Patra Foundation operates one of the world's largest school meal programs, providing nutritious meals to children to encourage school attendance, improve learning outcomes and support access to education.
