Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has been honoured with an official day in Los Angeles, with the city declaring Jan. 6, 2027, as “Diljit Dosanjh Day” in recognition of his contributions to Punjabi music and South Asian representation in American culture.
Dosanjh shared the announcement on Instagram, revealing that the Los Angeles City Council had adopted a civic resolution introduced by Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez. The resolution recognises the India-born artiste for helping take Punjabi music to global audiences and expanding South Asian visibility in mainstream entertainment.

A video posted by Dosanjh showed him receiving a framed copy of the resolution during a ceremony in Los Angeles. As the honour was presented, a city official told the singer, “In the city of LA, we're declaring a day after you. So it's Diljit Dosanjh Day in the city of Los Angeles on your birthday.”
Appearing visibly moved, Dosanjh responded, “I'm speechless. What should I say? I'm speechless actually. Wow. Thank you so much.”
Presenting the resolution, Rodriguez congratulated the singer, saying, “We are so happy to have you and congratulations,” to which Dosanjh replied, “Thank you so much. I love you guys.”
The recognition adds to a series of milestones in Dosanjh's international career. Over the past few years, he has emerged as one of the most visible Punjabi artistes globally, becoming the first Punjabi musician to perform at major international festivals including Coachella and selling out arena shows across North America.
Known for bridging Punjabi music with mainstream global audiences, Dosanjh has also built a successful acting career in both Punjabi and Hindi cinema while maintaining a strong fan base among South Asian diaspora communities worldwide.
Dosanjh was recently seen in filmmaker Imtiaz Ali's romantic drama Main Vaapas Aaunga, which released in theatres on June 12.
