Debates over hyperscale data centers offer an early signal of how societies will govern artificial intelligence infrastructure and share its costs and benefits, according to Akhilesh Bajaj, dean of the Collins College of Business.
In an essay titled, ‘From the Dean’s Desk: Hyperscale Data Centers: A Canary in the Coal Mine’, Bajaj argued that what often appeared to be narrow local disputes over zoning, electricity and water use were among the earliest and most concrete governance choices shaping an AI-enabled economy.
